School Pride

Basketball season has officially started! And let me tell you, I am so excited. I have season tickets with my friends Jocelyn and Erin and we are super pumped to watch some good ol' bball. Living in Indiana and having both my parents IU alumni makes basketball season pretty important in my house. But now I'm at IU and want to start my own traditions. I want to have season tickets every year! I went to the first exhibition game last night and we played Grace College. We totally won, but it's so much more than just winning. It was the crowd and the fans. How everyone was super excited. It's this feeling of camaraderie you get when surrounded by IU basketball fans. When you all cheer and chant together. When you high five and sing the fight song. It all puts a huge smile on my face. This guy last night when we were waiting for the bus was like "HOO- HOO- HOO- HOOSIERS!" I was laughing so hard. People just get so hype down here and I love it! It's about school pride, and I feel a lot of the time people aren't proud to be a Hoosier. I see so many people around campus wearing Notre Dame sweatshirts and Purdue sweatpants. What the fuck is that shit about? We go to IU. We are rivals to ND and Purdue. I grew up knowing that it was just unacceptable in my house to cheer for any other college except IU. Born and bred IU fan. It's so disappointing to see people actually buy that shit. I would spend any amount of money on IU fan wear, but not even a penny on ND or Purdue clothing. What is so wrong with being loyal and dedicated to your school? Am I alone on this one? I'm at this great school that is offering me great opportunities. We have pretty good sports programs and there are plenty of activities around campus to participate in. Why would it be so difficult for people to show their pride in IU? It just blows my mind how disloyal some people can be. I can't wait for the next game. It's on Monday and we play Saint Joseph's. I'm planning on wearing the new jersey I bought. It's an XL so that I can wear it as a dress! I'm super excited, as you can probably already tell.
