You Meet A Lot of People in College

And I mostly meet people who annoy me to no end. For instance, this girl in my education class plays the victim all the time. All. The. Time! I swear every story and little tidbit she has to say in class revolves around some sob story of hers. It's getting on my last nerve. Sometimes I just sit there and listen to her, and then I feel like smacking her across the face. I know that's really mean, but she acts like her life was so damn hard. Hey honey, you're sitting in a college classroom. Do you not realize how privileged you are? Do you not understand that there are millions maybe even billions of people out there who will never go to college? See those clothes on your back? Yea, people in this world don't have those either. Do you see the crappy dorm you live in? To some people, that is a mansion compared to the streets they live on. She seriously has no sense of reality. She can't even look past the stupid things that happened to her in high school. She talks about how mean teachers were and how she hated every single teacher at her high school. Honestly, the minute I started high school was the minute I didn't give two shits about it. There are more important things in the world to worry about, or even care about. Obviously she got a good enough education to get into college, so who cares what happened while she was in high school? How about we discuss the things we should do as teachers instead of complain and tell petty stories about who was mean and what wasn't fair. There's a lot of stuff that isn't fair, but it's what we make of the situations we're put in that allow us to rise above. I understand that there are a lot of teachers who are bad, but then that should drive you to not be like those people. I think one of the core reasons I want to be a teacher is to correct all the wrong. All the terrible teachers out there suck, so I'm going to be better. And I'll be damned if that doesn't happen. This girl should have the same mentality! If you hated high school, but want to be a teacher, then be a high school teacher and kick ass doing it. I honestly feel like it's that simple. And I'm really not trying to be insensitive. I know that people can be mean in high school, and it can be a really hard time for some kids. But if you made it to college and you started a new life for yourself, then quit dwelling on the past. Quit playing the role of the victim. No one wants to see your shit practically cry in class over something that happened a long time ago. Get it together chica. Instead of using class as your therapy session, use it to figure out who you will be as a teacher. Use the class time that we have to brainstorm ideas on how to be a successful and caring teacher. If you need a shrink, go see someone at health services.
